  • Discovering Amsterdam's Hidden Gems: Pulitzer and Kimpton De Witt

In the enchanting city of Amsterdam, where historic tales intertwine with modern narratives, I embarked on a journey to explore two distinctive hotels — the timeless Pulitzer Amsterdam and the chic Kimpton De Witt. Each property, with its unique character and offerings, presents a narrative of luxury and comfort. Photography: Courtesy of Stephanie Sanchez Pulitzer Amsterdam: A Symphony of History and Luxury In the heart of Amsterdam, where history whispers through cobblestone streets and canals weave stories of a bygone era, lies a hidden gem — the Pulitzer Amsterdam. With its 25 interconnected Dutch houses, this charming haven unfolds like a novel, revealing 225 rooms, each a chapter in the grand narrative of luxury and sophistication. As I stepped into this enchanting property, I found myself traversing the two halves connected by a secret Courtyard Garden, a secluded oasis amidst the city's vibrant pulse. The Pulitzer Amsterdam, like a well-penned novel, invites guests to explore its diverse characters and settings. From the bustling lobby to the intimate bar and restaurants, each entrance tells a different tale. Private entrances into select suites add an element of mystery, promising an exclusive experience for those seeking a touch of romance or seclusion. As I observed the ebb and flow of guests, I couldn't help but notice the attentive staff in the front lobby, orchestrating a seamless performance. Coats and luggage were whisked away with practiced precision, a prelude to the personalized service that awaited within. The rooms, ranging from standard King and Queen abodes to individually themed suites, unfolded like chapters in a well-crafted novel. Connecting twin rooms to spacious King and Queen chambers cater well to family groups, weaving together the threads of comfort and convenience. Enhancing the luxurious stays of their largely affluent and American clientele are upgrades, as well as the flexibility of early check-ins and late check-outs, which allow guests to savor each moment at the property. Photography: Courtesy of Pulitzer Amsterdam As the seasons change, the hotel's rhythm mirrors the ebb and flow of Amsterdam's pulse. From the height of corporate groups from April to June to the leisure travelers of July and August, September and October marks a bustling climax, while November and December introduce a softer, slower period for the hotel. The hotel's strategic location, a mere 20-minute walk from the central train station, beckons explorers to delve into the vibrant tapestry of Amsterdam. A private dock which provides private canal tours is such a unique value not seen in many properties around the city. For a nominal fee, guests can embark on a journey along the waterways, the city's story unfolding from a unique perspective. For those with a penchant for luxury, a generous budget, and an appreciation for the finer details of a well-crafted narrative, this hidden gem is a must-visit. I can confidently say that the Pulitzer Amsterdam is not just a destination; it's an immersive story, waiting to be experienced and cherished. Kimpton De Witt: A Modern Boutique Retreat Nestled in the heart of Amsterdam, the Kimpton De Witt effortlessly combines modern luxury with a touch of Dutch charm. As you step inside, you'll find yourself immersed in a unique space that seamlessly merges three traditional Dutch houses, creating a hotel that's as cozy as it is sophisticated. With 276 rooms, including six exclusive suites, the property showcases a blend of architectural styles, allowing guests to catch glimpses of exposed brick walls within the interior. The third Dutch house, where rooms are designed loft/cottage style, boasts historical significance as the childhood home of a famous poet. The carpet decor throughout the property pays homage to the second house's original owners, adding a personal touch to the overall ambiance. Photography: Courtesy of Kimpton de Witt Conveniently located, Kimpton De Witt is a mere 6-minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal train station, just one stop away from the airport. This accessibility makes it an ideal choice for travelers, with the hotel positioned as the younger sister property to the renowned Pulitzer. The atmosphere caters to a more modern, younger crowd seeking a blend of boutique style and well-known IHG branded service. Accommodations at Kimpton De Witt range from Essential rooms for the budget-conscious solo traveler to Premium and Premium with Street View options. The six suites, including King connectors with Twins, offer a heightened sense of luxury. The room designs reflect Delft cultural influences, incorporating vibrant colors and patterns alongside modern geometric touches. Local artisan and toiletry products enhance the overall experience. The property's charm extends beyond its rooms, with Café Celia providing a perfect spot for co-working or simply lounging with a coffee. The Super Lyan bar, with its 50s Palm Springs flair, offers a unique experience, complete with design elements reminiscent of a classic diner – the cherry-red bar stools and wrapped bar resembling soft-serve ice cream. The lobby lounge exudes coziness, creating an inviting atmosphere for guests to unwind. Secure elevators add an extra layer of safety, requiring a key for operation. Sustainability is at the forefront of Kimpton De Witt's ethos, demonstrated through initiatives like the "Plant Pal" program, allowing guests to nurture a plant in their room during their stay. The Kimpton De Witt seamlessly blends history, luxury, and sustainability, making it a standout choice for travelers seeking a unique Amsterdam experience. Whether you're a solo adventurer or a group of friends, this hotel offers a perfect balance of comfort, style, and thoughtful amenities. It's an absolute delight to recommend Kimpton De Witt to clients – a moderately priced luxe hotel that delivers on both comfort and style. As I reflect on my journey at these two distinct properties, I find myself enchanted by the harmonious blend of history and modernity, luxury, and accessibility. Whether the timeless elegance of Pulitzer Amsterdam or the chic charm of Kimpton De Witt, each hotel invites guests to curate their own unique Amsterdam adventure.
